I chose to study dentistry because it uniquely integrates art, science and psychology to improve the overall health of the community. Dentists require artistic skills for precision and creativity, scientific knowledge to detect issues and plan treatments, and psycho- behavioral abilities to connect with patients and build trust. The immediate impact on patients’ confidence and appearance, coupled with the opportunity to manage a practice and achieve work-life balance, makes dentistry a gratifying and impactful career choice for me.
UCC’s mutual agreement with Canada assures that my degree will be recognized there, paving the way for more career opportunities. Additionally, the presence of a welcoming community of Canadian students at UCC makes it feel like a home away from home. The opportunity of studying and traveling in Europe adds an exciting dimension to my education, providing me with diverse cultural experiences and broadening my horizons.
The application process at UCC went exceptionally smoothly. I had the pleasure of being assisted by Celina, one of the admission officers, who exhibited a remarkable level of professionalism, understanding, and approachability. Celina kindly addressed all of my inquiries and provided comprehensive guidance throughout the process. One notable aspect of UCC’s admissions procedure is its holistic approach to candidate selection, which meant that there were no past stats available when I applied, unlike certain Canadian and American dental schools. Despite this difference, UCC’s admissions team were exceptionally supportive and responsive, readily addressing any questions or concerns that arose along the way.
I got so lucky! 🙂 Found this awesome friend on a Facebook group for students accepted to UCC. We hit it off and helped each other figure out what to pack and bring along for our big adventure. It was a massive help, having someone to go through all the prep stuff with made it way less stressful.
So far, the schedule has been pretty packed, with classes almost every day of the week. However, second year marked a significant shift in our learning journey. We spent more time at the dental hospital. It was a refreshing change from the lecture-based format of the first year. In second year, we finally had the chance to gain hands-on experience. It was truly amazing!
When it comes to getting help, my classmates and upper-year peer mentor have been incredible supporters throughout my academic journey. Their constant assistance has been a game-changer for me. Our course instructors, professors, dental nurses, and other school staff members are always ready to lend a helping hand. They’re so passionate about teaching and genuinely eager to assist us whenever we need it.
I am planning to go back to Canada and practice as a general dentist. To be well-prepared, I have been reaching out to recently graduated dentists to learn from their experiences. I am also exploring job opportunities in different parts of Canada and comparing them.
To be honest, I was a bit nervous about living so far away from home. It felt like stepping into a whole new world, and yeah, getting used to life in a new country was tough. But making awesome friends helped a lot! Having them around made everything way easier and way more fun too!
